Digital Den Brand Story
“What’s in a name?” is the beginning of a famous quote from William Shakespeare in Romeo and Juliet. There may not be much romance in my name but there is a story. Keep reading to find out what’s in my name.
If you’ve ever sat down and tried to come up with a name for your business, you’ll know it’s not easy – after all you hope to be in business for many years to come so it can’t be a name you’ll quickly tire of. Thankfully a few years on since deciding on Digital Den I’ve not yet had any major regrets.s!
Digital Den Marketing provides an insight into what I offer – digital marketing services. For those familiar with digital marketing, you’ll know it covers many disciplines and skill sets – some creative and others more technical. The inclusion of ‘marketing’ in my brand logo aims to illustrate that I’m a marketing professional, rather than an expert in IT.
Den is also an abbreviation of my name, Denise. But a den can also be a quiet and comfortable room for conversation, relaxation, reading and writing. So I think of Digital Den as not just my brand name, but a place – a creative space where I develop ideas, whether it’s at my kitchen table, a co-working space or simply outdoors in the garden or a park (when Northern Ireland weather allows it!). A den is also the shelter or retreat of a wild animal which led me to the fox – that’s another story in itself!
The Fox – many years ago I spent my undergraduate placement year working in the health and safety department of NIE Powerteam in Belfast. At the time we were based in Fortwilliam House and one of my colleagues nicknamed me ‘The Fortwilliam Fox’. A fox lives in a den and has thick red hair like my own – so the fox has become my brand icon and its red/orange colour is symbolic of the passion I have for what I do which motivates me to keep doing it.
Foxes are also considered to be strategic, quick-thinking, adaptable, clever and wise – clever enough to outsmart the competitors perhaps – or at least that gives me something to aspire to! When the fox is on the hunt we see its entire body is pointed like a strategically aimed arrow. In business and life we need a determined and powerfully focused mind-set like a fox to reach the targets we set ourselves, and those which others set for us.
